Neuro GUm & Mints

You know that rare feeling when you meet someone whose energy just clicks with yours?

That’s exactly how it was when Kent and Ryan met in college. Both were passionate athletes—Kent trained in Judo with the Japanese Olympic team and fought in Muay Thai in Thailand, while also expressing his creativity through large-scale murals. Ryan had that same go-getter energy as a high school cross-country and track team captain.

But at 19, a tragic accident left Ryan paralyzed from the waist down, and everything changed. Spending the next few years navigating his new norm, Ryan began searching for new hobbies that could help through his mental and physical recovery. Through this search, he discovered scuba diving.

After that Ryan and Kent headed to Catalina and became PADI® certified divers and that is where the concept of what we now know as Neuro was born.

For Bitter For Worse was inspired by Shelley and Jeff’s long, sparkly marriage and love for celebration. 

A whale-watching trip on the Salish Sea led to an obscure neurological malady with a fantastic French name…As a result of this health challenge, Shelley broke up with booze. She’s our Taste Maven. She drew from years of experience as a cocktail enthusiast to create her own nuanced non-alc recipes. Jeff’s our Reverse Bootlegger. He invented our patent-pending process and converted Shelley’s recipes to scalable formulas. For Bitter For Worse has been starting parties since 2020!

RIND Fruit Snacks

In the 1920s, before kale was cool, my great-grandmother, Helen Seitner, a passionate health food pioneer, opened her own natural foods store. The Stay-Well health shop carried all sorts of produce, flours, bulk seeds and nuts. She was ahead of her time in focusing on the power of whole foods. She refused to carry white flour in the store, only whole wheat. She’d purchase 100 pound bags of carrots for juicing and, most importantly, she insisted on letting nothing go to waste. It was this last piece of advice that left the greatest impression on me. She juiced daily, using only whole fruits and vegetables — roots, rinds, seeds and stems. I vividly remember her skin glowing orange from all the beta-carotene! I grew up seeing the benefits of her healthy lifestyle as she lived to nearly 100 and was full of vitality even later in life.

Seahorse Snacks

My name is Stacy and I am a seahorse. Not literally of course, but like a seahorse, I do not have a stomach. In order to eliminate a higher than average risk of gastric cancer due to an extremely rare genetic mutation (CDH1) I had it removed. 

That now means I have to eat frequently in order to keep energy up throughout the day. (And by frequently I mean every two hours - literally!) 

Now that may sound great at first, but let me tell you: it gets old fast. I needed to find snacks I could eat on the go that would be easy, healthy and packed with protein to help keep me focused and energized.

Nuts are a great source of protein and I learned that I can make them extra delicious. I soon realized that while genetic mutation is rare, there are many other seahorses out there (and non-seahorses alike) who crave delicious, healthy, non-boring snacks. This is my way of sharing my story and love of food with the world!

And so, Seahorse Snacks began! Whether you're an athlete, seahorse, growing child, or simply a lover of snacking, these nuts will fit the bill.
